So 2011 came and went with it a few new gadgets, gizmos and scandals such as Skyrim, Siri and Malema being booted out the ANC. Now what do we have to look forward to in 2012, remember this is the last year we will be around…supposedly so make sure you get to try out one of these items below.

Smartphone’s

I’m expecting iPhone 4GS or 5 to be either released or leaked sometime this year, hopefully with another scandal as that’s always funny. For me I’m not someone who has been brainwashed by apple… yet, I will still find it quite I’m quite interesting as  to how they will hype up the iPhone . For Apple this will be the sixth time, reminds me of movies that just won’t end after the first one this will probably be called “iPhone 5 when Siri attacks”. But not to be mean about apple I have to say that their phone is one solid contender no matter what version. I can only hazard a guess as to what capabilities the phone will have but Im sure all the apple fans out there will be pleased.

Moving to the android side of life I’m finding its getting rather difficult to keep up with all the android phones out on sale. So many companies are releasing their android phone left right and centre I don’t know whether to look at Samsungs, HTC’s or Motorola offerings. Although I have to say the Galaxy nexus boasting a bigger screen than the galaxy SII does look as though this is newest kid on the block… expected for the first quarter in 2012 after that it will probably fade into obscurity as the year progresses. Still though the dual core and Ice Cream Sandwich OS make this phone one power house, the only issue I have with it, no SD card slot which shouldn’t be a problem with the 32GB version.

I’m rather interested this year to see how the windows phones will do. Yes windows also do phones now as well and apparently they not that bad. Read this post to find out more about the windows smartphone onslaught.

Tablets

By far I am most interested in the Asus Transformer Prime tablet which boasts a quad core processor, it’s is better spec wise than most of the laptops sold at that not so incredible store. This tablet is not just a tablet as living up to its name it can transform into a laptop providing even more versatility for businessmen on the move. You have the option of a 32 or 64GB version,  It also comes with a micro SD card slot that can support up to 32GB so space is not an issue. Coming preloaded with Ice Cream Sandwich you are looking at one serious contender in the tablet market. The one issue many are having with tablets and even smartphones is the poor battery power. This tablet has the best in the class battery giving a user up to 15 hours with it docking station. With various expected release dates around the world it’s difficult to say when this tablet would reach our shores I’m just hoping it does as in the first place.

Games

There are really two games I’m looking forward to in 2012 and they are both from the gaming giant Blizzard. After a year and a half the next installation in the Starcraft universe Heart of the Swarm is rumoured to be ready. An official releases date is still to be set as Blizzard love to change release dates. It remains to be seen if Blizzard will decide to force Korea to have another public holiday,  or will they delay the release for the 3rd instalment to the Diablo franchise. The anticipated release is for the first quarter of 2012 and I’m already imagining the build to create. Cant decide between demon Hunter or Monk. Even 12 years on and I still play Diablo 2 at least once a year. Whether this game proves to be better remains to be seen however from watching game play videos I can’t say I will be disappointed. Plus it’s always fun when you play with friends not matter what you playing.

That’s my brief list of things to look forward to this year, What is your 2012 watchlist?

Damn right!

Well, I must admit, it took me 3 days to put together a list of goals for 2012 for myself and that was enough of a brain jolt, let alone trying to predict what I feel 2012 holds for us in the world of technology.

My main focus is always on things like SEO, social media and that landscape, so it’s easiest for me to draw an opinion on such a market. I think that the SEO/SM space is going to experience incredible change, we’re already seeing it with Google+, Google’s privacy polices and the likes, but how far they’re going to go in terms of eating up the entire market and creating a monopoly.. your guess is as good as mine.

I’m hoping to see an interesting movement in the world of household appliances meet firmware, or something to that effect. Televisions that act on voice (Apple should do something like this, I blogged about Vlingo not too long ago), kitchen appliances can be tweeted at and so forth. Many years ago, I wrote some software that allowed me to turn off my lights using Turbo Pascal – inspired by my father who is an electronic engineer, I was always incredible interested in this sort of thing, dare I pull its awesomeness down by lumping it into the boring home-automation niche.

So yeh, hoping to see some big changes and I feel that the momentum, technology and skills are there to do it :)

In regards to Google+ I was a bit disappointed. Its was great in the beginning then just faded away. My group of friends that aren’t as social media savy haven’t signed on yet, so currently my main platform is still Facebook. Though i hope Google start taking more market share, even with the privacy issues I’m still comfortable having them in control call me naive if you think that’s is too trusting.
